I'm not sure what art supplies you would want to carry in a box which is not really sealed from road splash and is carrying all of your wet, dirty, and rough (blocks, etc) stuff. Maybe its biggest value regarding art supplies would be to keep the wet or dirty outside stuff away from the supplies.

Best tongue box plus for me is never having to kneel down to get the set-up stuff out, like Ron said. Now if only I could find a way to do the set-up without kneeling. Blocks, cranks, levelers, emergency jack, tools, carpet. Next, is having all that dirty stuff accessible and handy so I never have to wonder where it is.

Now, I wonder what else we can fit in this box?
Smeagol...have u tried?
They're tiny enough!
As far as the art stuff goes, I was wondering if all the dirty stuff could create some sort of abstract art on a canvas as we go over the bumpy roads ...
Really, thanks to all of you...your comments really helped.
Darned list is growing...

We have the storage box on our 21, and appreciate being able to carry the hitching up stuff in it, as well as the bag we use to collect the recyclables we generate as we go along. On our previous trailer, all these things were stowed in the back of our tow vehicle, which is a pickup truck with camper shell/cap.
In the interest of full disclosure, however, have a read through this thread, titled Vibration When Towing Our New Escape 21. We think we have solved OUR problem with it, and if so, would get the box if/when we were ordering another trailer; but if the problem comes back, I'd probably vote the opposite.
YMMV

Interesting problem. Thanks for the link. It's these nuances that I need to learn about and to be aware. It seems that every option does have its pluses and minuses.

Be aware that the vibration issue with the storage box has only occurred on the 21. It's box is slightly larger than the one on the 19, and there seems to be more flex because of that.

Quite frankly looking at a trailer with the batteries sitting there exposed in a large area with two propane tanks out in front seems jarring. But, as is with so many discussion points on this forum, we have a multitude of views. As long as we can do what works for us it's all good.

Hi Ron sorry if not right thread . I think it was your trailer . It was the shelf over our door . I have been working in trailer and wanted to complete that mod . OK Pat, later I'll post it as "over door shelf" with a couple of comments.

On the 21 ft the website does not state the box empty weight. I recall reading it was around 100 lbs ? Anyone know the box weight ?

The weight LIMIT for the box is 100#; not sure what the box itself weighs.

Correct, that this the stated weight capacity on a label inside.

Thank you again.

We have the box and the window over the sink. Both are indespensible in our opinion. Spend money up front, never look back. There are no pockets on caskets.

Insofar as I did not read all of the posts in this thread and only replied to the original question asked by Artlady, I did not realize that a shift in the tectonic plates of this thread occurred causing continental thread drift. With that in mind I recalled comments from at least 6 people here at the rally who
felt the box was "worth it's weight in gold". That said and considering the closing price of gold yesterday was $1,215 an ounce or so, the $700 box must only weigh about .57 ounces though it seems it might be a little heavier than that. You're welcome
Dave

Hi Dave, I like your sense of humor. You seem like a very creative fellow as well. Thanks for putting a smile on my face. Hoping you are up north with all the others and if so having a great time. Kim and I wish we were up there ourselves but will be next year for sure to meet our extended Escape family. I might or might not get the storage box, leaning towards it. Won't decide until I know what it weighs. On anything going on the tongue I have to have weight accounted for.

I bet the box is something you can stick under your arm and carry. Fiberglass is pretty light. It's what you put into the box that gets heavy.
