OK, last post in this thread. The new born trailer is home.
The walk through was good to have, never had an awning before so it was good to practice opening and closing it. Dennis installed the WDH and off we went, even managed a Timmy stop, no doubt the first of many.
Towed well but at first the MPG readings from my gage were pretty horrible but then I think the ECU must have adapted to the new loading etc. and the numbers improved. We stopped at the first rest stop just to check things and all was good.
I towed the Scamp with a box cover but because of the higher front on the Escape and the sometimes nuisance of having items just a little too tall to fit under the cover I decided to go with a canopy. No big investment though, $40 but I had to clean it up and paint it. I like the sloped top and I'll probably make a wind deflector also. I also made rear doors which make it much easier to access than with a tailgate. All in all, a pretty good day.
